Fiesta Choreography: Flamenco Orientale with Olga! Wednesdays, April 7-May 12, 6:30-7:30 PT
Join us as we explore the fusion of Spanish Flamenco and Arabic Raqs Sharqi! In this series, Olga will teach an entire 3-minute choreography to a popular song that focuses on the powerful elements of Flamenco dance, as well as the fluid and sensual elements of belly dance! Whether you're an advanced professional looking to add some flavor to your show, or an amateur dance lover, this class is suitable for all levels! Please bring a full skirt! Note: Shoes are preferred, but not necessary. There is NO intricate footwork in the dance, but having shoes will protect your feet). Class meets Wednesdays from April 7-May 12 from 6:30-7:30. Tuition includes performance opportunity in the Virtual Fiesta.
Fiesta Choreography: Leylet Hob: Choreography & Musicality with Nasila
Join us Thursday, April 29, 5:30-7:30pm Come learn an exciting dance to one of the most beloved songs in the Arabic world. ‘Night of Love’ marked the first time the ‘Voice of Egypt,’ Um Kalthoum, sang a work composed by famed composer Mohammed Abdel Wahab. You’ll learn combinations and moods to match maqsum, malfouf, baladi (masmoudi saghir), masmoudi kebir, and 6/8 rhythms, plus dynamic transitions, powerful accents, and a guided improvisation to a beautiful taxim. Nasila will be teaching this choreography during her regular Thursday classes, starting March 18. This workshop will be a review of the entire choreography. Tuition in this workshop includes participation in the Virtual Spring Fiesta. Filming dates, rehearsal & location TBA.

In this course, Sabah breaks down stationary dance concepts, diving deep into the technique, anatomy, and visualizations that give the dancers luscious, rich and articulate movements. This course includes lifetime access to four 90-minute classes, plus bonus materials.
Dance through our History~ The Egyptian Chapter with Aubre Hill: On Demand
Based upon her popular Historical Roots lecture, Aubre Hill is offering this great opportunity to dance through our history. Dive into the posture, musicality, movements, and aesthetics of pivotal moments in Egyptian dance history from Awalim to Modern Contemporary. Each class will start with a lecture to give context and background and then move dancers through a warmup, technique, and combinations to experience how each dance feels unique and distinct. Connections of evolution and influence will also be discussed and explored. Course includes six 90-minute classes, each dedicated to a specific topic (Awalim & Balady, Ghawazee, Golden Age, Reda, Raqs Sharqi/Orientale, Modern Contemporary). Access to materials will be available through 2021.

Our Jury has curated a wonderful selection of videos and films produced by dancers from March 2020-May 2021. Join us for the festival, Vote for your favorite film and tune in for the awards ceremony on Sunday, June 27 at 4pm PT.
Raqs Film Festival Video Submission & Application
In celebration of the creative innovation made over the past year, we are accepting submission for consideration in inclusion in the First International Raqs Film Festival. The due date for consideration is May 31st. Please have: Your video uploaded to YouTubeA complete list of creditsArtwork for your video with dimensions of 1280x720 Films need to have been produced from March 2020-May 2021. Videos accepted into the festival will be announced on June 12. The submission fee includes 1 ticket to the film festival.
